Obsidian Silicon is a one-person operation based in Redmond, Oregon — right in the heart of Central Oregon's high desert. When you drop off your parts, the same hands that answer your message are the ones building your machine. No shop floor, no handoffs, no strangers touching your hardware. Just one builder who takes it personally.
The name comes from obsidian volcanic glass, found throughout this region. Sharp, dark, and formed under pressure — just like a well-built machine. I've built everything from budget gaming rigs to high-end workstations, small form factor builds, home media servers, and NAS storage systems. Every build gets the same attention — clean cable management, proper thermal paste application, BIOS configuration, and a full stress test before it leaves my hands.
Tell me what you're looking for and I'll get back to you with a full price before any work begins.
Hand-assembled, stress-tested, and built to last. Gaming rigs, workstations, home theater PCs, small form factor builds, and home servers — every single one gets the same attention to detail.
Every build — regardless of tier — includes the following:
High-End / Enthusiast builds additionally include:
Every customer situation is different. Here are the three ways we can work together:
Standard Build — Full assembly, cable management, OS and driver installation, BIOS setup, and stress test. The right choice for most builds.
High-End / Enthusiast Build — Everything in a standard build, plus the added complexity of any of the following: small form factor cases, 4+ storage drives, 240mm+ AIO installation, 6+ case fans with BIOS-based sync and curve configuration, or advanced BIOS configuration such as PCIe bifurcation.
Whether it's a simple RAM upgrade or a full GPU swap, every job is priced fairly and done right. You'll always know the cost before any work begins.
Single component swaps are priced per job based on the component type and complexity. Any job involving multiple components or significant disassembly will be quoted individually. If the scope of upgrades reaches the level of a full rebuild, it will be quoted as a full build.
Minor upgrades are priced per component. Some installs require removing other components to gain access (GPU removal to reach an M.2 slot, for example) — this is factored into the quote upfront. Bringing multiple components? We'll put together a custom quote rather than charge per item.
Think of it as your own personal Netflix — your entire collection available on any TV, phone, or device in your home. I'll build it, set it up, and hand it back ready to use.
Plex is a free media server application that organizes your movies, TV shows, and music and streams them to any device in your home — or anywhere in the world. Once it's set up, it works just like Netflix. Browse your library, hit play, and it streams to your TV, phone, tablet, or computer.
A NAS (Network Attached Storage) is a dedicated storage device that sits on your home network and holds all your media files. Together, a NAS and Plex turn your physical disc collection into a fully searchable, always-available personal streaming library — your own personal Netflix, built from content you already own.
Turn your physical disc collection into high quality digital files — perfect for loading onto your Plex server or long-term personal archiving.
Drop off your discs and a storage device (external hard drive or USB drive) and I'll convert them into high quality digital files you can load directly onto Plex or store for personal archiving. DVDs are converted to standard HD digital files. Blu-rays are converted to high quality files that preserve the full resolution and audio quality of the original disc.
Think of it as building the library for your personal Netflix — once your collection is digitized and loaded into Plex, every movie is available at the tap of a button on any device in your home.
Not sure what to buy? I'll put together a parts list tailored to your budget and use case — no guesswork, no wasted money.
Tell me your budget, what you want to use the machine for, and any preferences you have. I'll put together a complete parts list with links to buy, explain why each part was chosen, and flag any compatibility concerns.
The complete package — disc collection digitized, NAS built, and Plex set up all in one go. Drop off your discs and parts, pick up your own personal Netflix.
This bundle combines the NAS & Plex build with media digitization into one seamless package. Drop off your physical disc collection and your parts list. I'll build the NAS, install and configure Plex, digitize your entire disc collection, load it all into your library, and hand it back to you ready to stream.
From the moment you plug it in, your entire collection is available on every TV, phone, and device in your home — organized, searchable, and streaming in full quality. Your own personal Netflix, built from the movies and shows you already own.
Every machine on this page was built for a customer, stress-tested, and picked up ready to run. Photos coming soon — specs are real.
A no-compromise content creation and gaming build. Intel Core Ultra 9 285K on an ASUS ProArt Z890 with an RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB DDR5, and a combination of 1TB + 8TB Gen 5 NVMe storage. The 8TB NVMe alone sets this machine apart — massive fast storage for large project files, raw footage, and anything else a creator throws at it. Topped off with an ASUS ProArt LC 420 AIO for rock-solid thermals under sustained workloads.
Built for serious 4K gaming. AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D paired with an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and 32GB DDR5 — the X3D's 3D V-Cache gives it a competitive edge in the games that demand it most.
Proof that budget components don't mean budget performance. Built around an Intel Core i5-12600K and 32GB DDR4 RAM paired with an Arc B580 — capable of 60+ FPS on modern titles at 1440p on high to medium settings, without the high-end price tag.
A full Proxmox virtualization server built to run multiple VMs and containers around the clock. Four 4TB Gen 5 NVMe drives in a RAID array — utilizing an ASUS Hyper M.2 card that uses PCIe bifurcation to split a single PCIe slot into multiple NVMe slots, maximizing storage density without sacrificing speed. Self-hosted, always-on, and completely off the cloud.
Built inside a Fractal Terra — one of the most compact cases you can put serious hardware into. Intel Core Ultra 7 265K, RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB DDR5, and a 1000W power supply, all packed into a case small enough to sit on your desk without demanding attention. Don't let the size fool you — this machine packs a powerful punch.
A dedicated NAS running TrueNAS — built for whole-home backup and media storage. Six-drive RAID setup with redundancy, paired with Plex for personal streaming on any device.
More builds added as photos are taken. Every machine listed was built, tested, and picked up by a real customer.
